To keep all Barangay Health Workers (BHWs) updated with the latest guidelines and developments when it comes to BHW functions and accreditation and discuss other relevant issues and matters, the DOH-CAR Barangay Health Workers Program facilitated the Regional BHW Federation Meeting, November 16, 2022.

Regional Director Rio L. Magpantay expressed his support towards the BHWs and highlighted their integral role in ensuring that the health programs reach the grassroots level, even coining his own definition of the acronym: “π‘©π’‚π’π’Šπ’Œπ’‚π’•”, “π‘―π’–π’˜π’‚π’“π’‚π’”, and “π‘Ύπ’‚π’ˆπ’‚π’””.

The participants, which mostly comprised of BHW officers from the six different provinces and Baguio City, were also oriented by Development Management Officer (DMO) II Orly T. Primo on IP Rights Awareness and Cultural Sensitivity while DMO IV Brenilyn Siadto presented the BHWs’ roles in Universal Health Care. DMO III and Barangay Health Workers- Cordillera Administrative Region Program Coordinator Darwin F. Babon discussed the standardization of competencies for BHWs, among other pertinent matters.

After each of the provinces and Baguio City have presented its top five high-impact projects/programs/activities (PPAs) and challenges for 2022 and their plans moving forward, the Regional BHW Federation elected its new set of officers, where incumbent president Divina Packoy was voted to retain her position. She called for continued cooperation among her fellow elected officers and BHWs for the sustained success of the organization.

Nurse V Karen B. Lonogan capped the day with a focus group discussion to assess the current capacities of the BHWs in their respective areas.

Participants of the event also received face masks, rubbing alcohol, hygiene kits, manual blood pressure kits, vests, calendars, and cash prizes.
