𝗚𝗜𝗩𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗕𝗛𝗪𝘀 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗥𝗘𝗖𝗢𝗚𝗡𝗜𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗧𝗛𝗘𝗬 𝗗𝗘𝗦𝗘𝗥𝗩𝗘
“𝑬𝒅𝒖𝒄𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒂𝒍 𝒂𝒕𝒕𝒂𝒊𝒏𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒊𝒔 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒂𝒏 𝒊𝒔𝒔𝒖𝒆 𝒊𝒏 𝒔𝒆𝒓𝒗𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒂𝒔 𝒂 𝑩𝑯𝑾,” Ms. Rhoda Bessay said as she accepted her award as Most Outstanding Barangay Health Worker (BHW) in the Cordilleras during the 2022 BHWs Performance-Based Incentives and Recognition of Health Systems Integration Efforts of the City and Provincial Governments Awarding Program conducted by the Department of Health – Cordillera through its Barangay Health Workers- Cordillera Administrative Region program last November 17, 2022.
Ms. Bessay has been serving as a BHW in Banga-an, Sagada, Mountain Province for 40 years and has been commended by their LGU for her proactive efforts and contributions in health promotion and lobbying for the allocation of annual financial aid for Sagada BHWs. She believes that she and her fellow BHWs were destined to be public servants in their humble capacities.
Ms. Junaline Valdez of Tuba, Benguet was awarded first runner-up in the said category.
In other awards, the Municipal BHW Federation of Tuba, Benguet won Top Performing BHW Federation, with Tuba Vice Mayor Hon. Maria Carantes accepting the award on behalf of the municipality, who highlighted the invaluable voluntary services that BHWs render and how these help local communities achieve their health goals.
The Top Performing Provincial BHW Federations were also given awards, with Benguet garnering top honors and Mountain Province and Apayao finishing as first- and second-runners-up, respectively.
Each of the provinces and city were also recognized for their LGU-led efforts in integrating their local healthy systems into province- and city-wide integration sites (IS) in consonance with the mandates of Universal Health Care (UHC).
The provinces of Benguet, Kalinga, and Ifugao were distinguished as Frontrunner IS; Mountain Province and Baguio City as Challenger IS, Apayao as Trailblazer IS, and Abra as Overcomer IS.
Other highlights of the event include the oath-taking of the newly-elected Regional BHW Federation officers, and officiated by Regional Director Dr. Rio Magpantay.
RD Magpantay described the event with three P’s: “𝑷𝒂𝒔𝒂𝒔𝒂𝒍𝒂𝒎𝒂𝒕”, “𝑷𝒂𝒈𝒑𝒖𝒑𝒖𝒈𝒂𝒚”, and “𝑷𝒂𝒈𝒅𝒊𝒓𝒊𝒘𝒂𝒏𝒈”.
